Theoretical study on isotope-selective excitation of diatomic molecules by a terahertz frequency comb

Computer simulations were performed for studying isotope-selective excitation of lithium chloride using a terahertz frequency comb. The time evolution of rovibrational population was calculated by the close-coupling method. The $$^7$$Li$$^{35}$$Cl molecule was excited selectively in gaseous mixture of $$^7$$Li$$^{35}$$Cl and $$^7$$Li$$^{37}$$Cl by adjusting pulse parameters. Moreover, the wave packet calculations were performed to investigate the dissociation process. More than half of $$^7$$Li$$^{35}$$Cl in the rovibrational state (v=0, J=150) were dissociated by the second pulse.

Highly efficient frequency doubling of high-energy Nd:YAG laser using a CsB$$_{3}$$O$$_{5}$$ crystal

We have demonstrated efficient frequency doubling of high energy fundamental Nd:YAG laser pulse energy of the multi-J level at a high repetition rate using high optical quality top-seeded solution growth CsB$$_{3}$$O$$_{5}$$ (TSSG-CBO) crystal. Second-harmonic (532 nm) generation (SHG) output energy of 12 W at 10 Hz is obtained with a conversion efficiency of 60% The numerical calculation SHG efficiency agrees well with the measured results. These results indicate that CBO is a good candidate material for high energy SHG of Nd-doped lasers at the several J level or more with high repetition rate.

We have demonstrated that we can homogenize the spatial profile of a high-energy green laser pulse used for pumping a petawatt scale Ti:sapphire amplifier. The second harmonic of a high-energy, large-aperture Nd:glass laser system generates laser emission at a green wavelength with 75 J single pulse energy. Using a diffractive optical element for beam homogenization, we have obtained a highly spatially uniform flat-top second harmonic profile.

We demonstrate a high-contrast, high-intensity double chirped-pulse amplification (CPA) Ti:sapphire laser system using an optical parametric chirped-pulse (OPCPA) pre- amplifier. By injecting cleaned microjoule seed pulses into the OPCPA, a temporal contrast greater than $$10^{10}$$ within picosecond times before the main femtosecond pulse is demonstrated with an output pulse energy of 1.7 J and a pulse duration of 30 fs, corresponding to a peak power of 60 TW at a 10 Hz repetition rate. This system uses a cryogenically-cooled Ti:sapphire final amplifier and generates focused peak intensities in excess of $$10^{20}$$ W/$$cm^{2}$$.

In this paper we discuss the bandwidth enhancement that can be achieved in multi-joule optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) systems exploiting the tenability of parametric amplification. We demonstrate that a bandwidth enhancement up to 50% is possible using multi-beam operation of OPCPA amplifiers.
